Japanese meat & potato stew with Green Tea W/ Toasted Rice
Nikujaga (Japanese meat and potato stew) is one of Japan’s classic home-cooked dishes. It is a stew made by simmering beef and vegetables such as potatoes, onions, and carrots in a sauce made from soy sauce, sugar, mirin, and dashi. While the preparation method and ingredients can vary slightly depending on the region or household, nikujaga is generally a comforting and hearty dish. Historically, it is said to have been influenced by Western dishes like beef stew and pot-au-feu around the 1900s.
Until now, we’ve mostly introduced pairings with sweets, but today we want to introduce a tea pairing with a meal. YUCa’s Tea Green Tea With Toasted Rice (Genmaicha) is a tea that pairs well not only with sweets but also with meals. The flavors of nikujaga, which balance umami and sweetness, are a perfect match with the toasty flavor of our genmaicha, which is made from rice. Enjoy it with your nikujaga!
