Region

Kyoto City is a popular tourist destination, but Uji City also offers many local specialties. These include the world heritage site Byodo-in Temple's Phoenix Hall, the Uji Bridge, one of Japan's oldest, and Asahiyaki, one of the seven kilns of Enshu. Kyoto is particularly known for its abundance of matcha-based foods, making it a must-visit place for matcha lovers.

Tea pairing

A perfect food pairing for organic matcha is nama yatsuhashi (soft cinnamon-seasoned rice flour confection). Yatsuhashi is a classic souvenir from Kyoto, available in various flavors, but the simple combination of cinnamon (nikki) and red bean paste (anko) is highly recommended. The texture is soft yet chewy, and I’d suggest savoring it slowly while enjoying the matcha, letting the flavors blend together.
